The US Department of Justice has shut down six cryptocurrency accounts worth around $112 million that were connected to cryptocurrency scams in Arizona, California, and Idaho.
According to reports, the scammers built relationships with victims through online channels, eventually convincing them to invest in fraudulent cryptocurrency trading platforms.
The seized wallets were used to launder the proceeds from various scam schemes in the region.
Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the DoJ’s criminal division stated that these scams have had a devastating impact on victims, with some potentially investing their life savings.
The Department plans to return the funds to the rightful owners and is urging victims to contact their local FBI field office and provide factual information about their involvement in the scams, including transaction hashes and bank account information.
